"Americans do not seem to be able to handle gun ownership in a way that permits maintenance of a civil society." -- John Traphagan, Professor of Religious Studies and Anthropology at the University of Texas at Austin.

“Other modern industrial countries have realized, in some cases long ago, that it is unnecessary for people in a free society to have easy access to guns.”
Maybe he needs to dive back into his religious studies and pray about it. I sure he has used places like Europe as a comparison on how effective gun control can be. On the other hand if we actually ENFORCED our current laws against the bad guys and stopped the liberal enablement of society maybe things would turn around. Or maybe not!
The study concluded that “restrictive concealed weapons laws may cause an increase in gun-related murders at the state level.” Hummm...I seemed to read material that states the opposite.
Much wiser men in cases much longer ago realized that access to guns was the only thing that separates a free man from a slave.
If the citizens of those "other industrial countries" believe they live a a free society they are sorely mistaken.
I have a friend on a basketball board from Iceland. They are not permitted to name their own children unless the government approves of the name.
Industry is not a mark of a free society.
For a professor, Mr. Traphagan appears to be quite the uneducated man.

Yet I am sure that he thinks of himself as the one that can make the difference.
I am blaming the 'public option' in education for his indoctrination. The left understands that it must disarm the citizenry in order to bring about it's vision of a socialist utopia. How can you force the productive to support the parasites of society, but with a bayonet in their backs? We know that as long as the Second Amendment exits the other Amendments are truly protected, and that we shall remain a Gulag free society.
