Full Version: A Personal Reflection: It's Not News Today; It Was 150 Years Ago Today

The chances are no one in what is known as "the media" will mention that the Civil War ended 150 years ago today, April 9, 1865, with Robert E. Lee surrendering his army to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. 750,000 Americans died in that war, give or take 100,000.

I am amazed how, over the past several decades, "educators" have trashed and rewritten the rich history of the American Experiment, which in total, has been nothing short of a secular miracle in the governance of a people. Equally as puzzling, I have seen no pushback for a return to teaching the Truth.

I am also amazed that so many gave up their only true possession in that war, their lives, with the intent of preserving their freedom and their liberty. Yet so many today are more than willing to give away wholesale those twin commodities at the altar of Big Government, abdicating their ability (and responsibility) to make choices about their lives for themselves. Do they realize that once these rights are stolen from us they will never be returned?

Today, at 2:15PM CDT, bells across the nation are supposed to ring for four minutes, one minute for each year of the war, commemorating the end of hostilities. I wonder if we will hear any of these bells of remembrance ringing in the communities of Lake county?

Very interesting. Thanks for attaching the document. I wish I could be there in Virginia right now to see this event. Not many villages have "bells" anymore. Maybe the occasional church. Where I work in Northbrook, one church down the street plays a hymn a noon during the summer. If I can, I'll poke my head out to see if they commemorate.

Thanks.
That's pretty cool and good to know. I love informative posts like this. I'll spread the word as well!
