Police chief: 'Put CCTV in every home'

CCTV cameras should be installed by homeowners and businesses to help detectives solve crimes in the age of austerity, Britain’s most senior policeman has said.

Commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe also said that homeowners must make efforts to install equipment properly to avoid undermining inquiries.

When the Metropolitan Police Commissioner was asked if business and home owners needed to make greater use of CCTV cameras he said yes, adding: “We’ve got a strategy to encourage people, with their cameras, is to move them down to eye level.”

But the Commissioner warned those buying such devices to be sure to position them correctly.

I remember a few years back when they had the riots/fires all over London. Baseballs bats are sold out. How sad!

They have even tried to ban long kitchen/butcher knives since that is the criminal elements weapon of choice. Might as well just lock down the country.

Banning everything does not fix everything. England is just ridiculous.

Any country faced with trying to solve crime; it's easy to try and take away something, but how about allowing guns back into their society. I bet those knife wielding criminals will have to step it up a bit from kitchen knives; and even with a gun, they'd have to think twice before doing their business.

As a Brit I admit when I first moved to the US, I was pretty much anti-gun. Guess we are brought up with a lack of self-reliance and dependency. On the positive side some of us Brits over here are now educated and pro-gun.
