Two pictures; pistol range (yes it's green) and the target control box (took a few minutes for me to figure it out). This place even has a valet!

Any off the wall rule or restriction I'm thinking of going there tomorrow?

Looks nice. I am happy ranges are taking the time to look nice, instead of feeling like you are having a shoot out in Hitler's bunker

On Target in Crystal Lake is like that. The range is clean, well ventilated, clearly caters to novice women shooters, and seems well managed. It's not cheap by any means $10/hr for members, $20/hr for non-members. ($250 membership). Went probably at the busiest time (a Saturday morning at 10am, when they first open). Range officers are friendly enough and run a very safe operation.

I guess I still prefer outdoor ranges, like McMiller. And the $200.00 (300 w/300yd range) yearly UNLIMITED pass is still one of the great bargains in shooting. $16 all day... $20 w/300yd range...

GTR's membership is just insane.

Here are some numbers.

OnTarget has a $250 membership, you pay $10 per hour with and $20 without. You need to go 26 times at 1 hour to break even, but you get to reserve.

GTR has a $449 membership, you get 10 free hours and then pay regular price, and you get to reserve.

It is $510 annual cost for OnTarget membership with 2 visits per month and $769 for GTR

For me the distance to OnTarget is 18 miles and GTR is 11. Even figuring in gas it is $580 vs. $815

Gat Guns is 31 miles away and has no membership but does have a 10 visit pass for $17.5 hour.

McMillers is 50 miles away with $12 hour.

Summary with gas included, 26 visits for 1 hour in 1 year.

OnTarget $580.98 (reservations yes)
GTR $815.02 (reservations yes)
GatGuns $640.90 (reservations NO)
McMillers $507.39 (reservations NO)
McMillers $611.39 (all day pass per visit)
McMillers $395.39 (with Annual pass)

Went to GTR today range is nice, clean, well ventilated the staff is helpful friendly
no off the wall rules I was there for two hours paid $48.00 It's $24.00 hour for both pistol & rifle
they let you shoot both pistol & rifle in the same lane. I would go back I live less than 2 miles away from it.

Using dutz math Bristol would be 305 a year. And you can shoot all day if you would like.

5 rounds for pistol and 22 in the pistol house and the 50. Center fire rifle 1 round unless for a magazine check. Or on the 100 200 you can ask the RO to do timed fire drills which I would believe would allow more rounds. But I can't type and check other sites at the same time on this phone

They also have skeet trap archery and black powder. For non members it's expensive. But when you join it's pretty cheap and close. It's nice to go shooting every weekend

Bristol has a strange feel to the place. The RO was not rude, but there was a definite power trip feel to his approach. I lump in the one round at a time as part of that.

I have no problem with following the rules of a range, and I have no problem humbling myself when I am in your house or any other appropriate place and time. But when I am paying you money I should not have to "humble myself before you" while I follow your rules. That's how it felt.

When it's my money, you work for me.

I have only been there once, so another trip at least would probably be fair.

Some if the pistol/rifle RO are a little higher strung. I think it's due to the fact people have a much higher tendency of doing dumb things. And I think part of the issue is that also the rules are posted at each station. And no one reads them, I have had to correct other shooters. No one likes to be some ones mom. I would go on maybe a Sunday they are normally slower. The shotgun range is good, as long as you use the right ammo and don't act like a idiot you are good

RO are volunteers, so technically I don't think they are working for anyone Smile

The RO at GTR came over and was admiring my Sig 938. I wasn't sure if he was genuinely interested or saw a new face and was sizing me up as a shooter. Very relaxed and no power trip vibe though.

Now I remember it was about a year ago when I look in to Bristol they are also Anti 2A, posted against carrying. How does a place that promotes gun use then post against carrying? That was the big one for me I don't spend my money anywhere they post.
