So I have recently discovered my love for bolt action rifles. And I have been doing some research on them. I always knew Remington was a highly recommended and well known company. Then I found Howa and their rifles. I'm stuck between the middle on both. I've handled the 700 before but I'm kind of reluctant because of their issues they have, about the triggers and safeties. I like the Howa rifles because I've read reviews on them and most of the reviews were good. I also like that you can buy the Howa with a detachable magazine. I know Remington has detachable magazine kits for the 700 but most of them have bad reviews. If anyone has had any experience with any of these rifles, please tell me what you liked and didn't like about either of these rifles. Thank you.

I have only fired one Howa, and it was a .270. Very nice rifle, with a stock that just seemed to mesh well with me. The owner had a scope on it with low rings, I prefer taller ones. Shot straight and very flat. We didn't shoot any targets over 400 yrds.

I like the Savage of rifles too. I am sort of indifferent to the Remington's, although there is a ton of after market stuff available to customize them to any personal preference. I currently only own two bolt guns... A Mosin-Nagant and a Ruger Gunsite scout. I set up a DPMS LR-308LRL as a long range target shooter (see the gun porn section for a pic).

Have you looked at savage? I am looking at a ba rifle as well. I read that out of the box they are more accurate than Remington . I have heard good things about the accu stock and trigger.. I would stay away from mil surplus. It has a cool factor but they are always a pain to sight in

I have a Savage Scout with the Accu Stock and Accu Trigger. Great rifle. Hard not to be accurate with a trigger like that.

I also have a very cheap .308 savage rifle. It's very accurate.
