Although I've only read one of McCoulloughs' books on George Washington, I did really enjoy the recent HBO production of one of his works made for TV.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472027/?ref_=nv_sr_1

They have some superb acting, and touch on subjects that we see today as contestable issues.

Worth the watch if you like American History.

Favorite quote from this. - "I must study war and politics, so that my children may study science and math, so their children may study art and music."

Although what he really said was in a letter to Abigail.

"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain."

Yes, the series was very good.

Although my favorite Adams portrayal was William Daniels in "1776" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068156/

1776 - musical; yes I recently saw it. Also saw the Marriott Lincolnshire version some years ago. One of my favorite.
