FERGUSON, Mo. -- A grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown, the unarmed, black 18-year-old whose fatal shooting sparked weeks of sometimes-violent protests.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch announced the decision Monday evening. A grand jury of nine whites and three blacks had been meeting weekly since Aug. 20 to consider evidence.

At least nine votes would have been required to indict Wilson.

The Justice Department is conducting an investigation into possible civil rights violations that could result in federal charges.

Brown's Aug. 9 death sparked more than a week of unrest that included angry clashes between police and protesters and led Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to briefly summon the National Guard.

As the nation awaited the announcement, authorities quickly stepped up security around the courthouse.

It's a real shame people burn down their own neighborhoods.

People that loot and fire bomb are not peaceful protesters. Those that aid and abet these felons are just as guilty. The National Guard and Police should have opened fire and shot to kill these FELONS. These are type of low life scum we don't need or want in America. They are the typical 'entitlement' people represented by Obama and his crowd. The business owners should have opened up on these scumbags. Why didn't the Police and National Guard do so? Firebombing and looting are Felonies.

We as a nation are going soft when we let hoodlums ransack businesses. The morale of the story I guess is never open a business near these kind of people or hire people like you have in Ferguson. Lesson learned.

In Chicago April 1968 during the MLK rioting, Mayor Richard J. Daley issued his famous order, "shoot to kill arsonists" and "shoot to maim looters"to the Police and National Guard. Daley later denied he made the statement.

Being so cold yesterday, not sure why they didn't have water cannon ready. A little cold water would have sent them all home.

And would have helped put out the Molotov cocktails...

Obama should have just shut his month last night. Just like back years ago when he said "the police asked stupidly". He's a clown.

These ***** clowns are back at it again tonight now. I really hope that after all this all the business recover and leave town. These people don't deserve to have them after all this. I understand that they are upset and want to protest and show support for Brown and whatever but this is not how you go about doing that. Just making themselves look like idiots.

I watched a bit of FOX last night, and they had the National Guard all over the place. Things were under control. Where were they the night before. It almost like the rioters were given a free pass that first night.

What I don't get, is why these people are standing up for a hoodlum with a long rap sheet, and not even two hours before committed a strong armed robbery. Then he assaults a police officer in his patrol car, goes for the officers gun and and beats the officer. Brown had drugs in his system at the time. The forensic evidence says he did not have his hands up and he then charged at the officer. The shooting was clearly justified. I understand these people like to loot, commit arson, and riot. They are not peaceful protesters. They are scum.

What I don't understand is why the police didn't open fire on these criminals, that are acting sub-human. I know understand why people don't want to live near their kind. They have zero respect for human life, property or others. They feel they are 'entitled' to riot. And will do it regardless.

Not only do I wonder where the national guards the first day, but why no curfew so the LEO could arrest the instigators and other crazies?
