The Barrel on my XDs shows signs of the Blue finish wearing off at points, so I was trying to look into some ways to change the finish on the barrel. I know it's not something I need to do, but if i can get a little more customized look and cover it up I'd like to look into that.

I was also looking into polishing the barrel, but I wanted to make sure there was 'a way out' before I screw around too much with it.

Any ideas, or previous experiences?

There are a few options to do what you would like to do. If you're talking about the actual barrel, I would not recommend just polishing it to a bare, shiny finish as that will leave the metal unprotected from corrosion and pitting, it should have some type of protective finish on it. If you'd like to bring the pistol in, we could get an accurate estimate and show you examples of ways we can refinish it. Duracoat is one option in which you can select a custom color/pattern, Parkerizing and re-blueing are others options. Just bring it in, unloaded, during business hours and we should be able to help you do exactly what you would like.

Would I be right in assuming the duracoat would be a more custom finish, but not as durable, as the parkerizing or re-blueing?

It's the 3.3" .45, so it's not very big, but I'll probably try and stop in for a quote sometime soon

I would say simply, don't worry about it. That wear is standard across the board, the wear point are contact points. If you refinish them they will wear just the same and you will have wasted your money.

I stopped in and was talking with David a bit today, and like I told him, I'm really not worried about the marks actually being a problem... I really just like tinkering with the things I like. I mainly just want to know if I screw it up or do want to change it, that I can have it refinished ect so that I don't ruin it overall.. haha I've been looking at trying to get it parkerized in a gray finish from you guys. That appeals to me and fits how I would like it to look. I really like the polished look, but since it'll be my carry gun I know it'll need a good finish on it for me to carry it.
