Is there a particular gauge any one prefers? I shot 20 for about 2 years. I stared back with 12 and I can see improvement. But I am really digging 16. It's a perfect balance with shot and weight

Haven't had experience with them all... But so far I like 12. If nothing else just for the variety available with it

Yea that is a huge perk to it. You can always find it, except when it's on sale

Shoot whichever you feel the most comfortable and practice with.

My preference varies depending on the target.....
-Upland game a 20 or 410, particulary when hunting over a well trained dog, which I no longer have. If I'm walking fields and fence lines for hours at a time I find the weight of a 20 or 410 to be more friendly as the hours pass by. I like to think I'll fill my vest with dead bird's rather than a heavier shell. Unfortunately it's a rare occasion that I fill my vest with birds....
-Waterfowl and any type of clay bird shooting I like a 12
-Home defense I keep a 12 within reach along with a load I practice with. Ideally I hope I never find out if a 12 is the right choice....
It's been quite a while since I fired a 16 or 10. I haven't paid attention on what's readily available in 16 loads. Ha...don't even look for 10's on a retail shelf.

What 16 are you shooting?

I actually saw a 10 today on a shelf. I don't even own a 10 but I almost bought the box just to win it. 16 is a little rough. I think in the end I will reload. I liked the 20 a lot since it is light. I picked up a outlander in 12. It's nice but with the gas chamber in front, I find my left arm fatiguing much early after a few games.

If you don't mind me asking Brian, what kind of kids do you generally practice with for your 12g?
He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”

— Luke 22:36, NIV

I have a 16. It's an old Stevens single shot. But I have been liking it so much, I am looking for a double barrel or an auto loader

All federal for right now..

2-3/4" target loads 7-1/2 shot

3-1/2" waterfowl load steel #2 shot

00 buckshot

Trophy copper sabot slug

I sat staring at them trying to figure what would be best to try out of the like 3 isles of shells... And these were basically the first that I looked at so I went with it.

Any thoughts?

Haha seriously! Don't get me wrong it saves me too, but times like this is important to double check! Don't want people getting the wrong idea!

Federal is my choice begrudgingly of the base ammo. Not that's it bad ammo they just pulled a ***** move. But in the end a lot if comes down to what we perceive our gun likes our are own superstitions. I would check out noble I know red dot carriers it. It's priced about the same as federal, I noticed it shoots cleaner. For pumps it's not as much of an issue. But good assortment of ammo.the perk if the shotgun is it can do many things so you might as well have the ammo to cover everything

That was one of the reasons that I wanted to get this gun. So many options to do so many things all in one fun little package. And I had read in another thread (after buying it lol) that federal was dirty. But my plan was to try different brands and take note on each one. I'll probably make Nobel my next go! Unless there's a really good sale on something... Haha
