Hey everybody,

I see there's not much love for this section yet, but I'm getting a Mossberg model 535 with a 28" barrel and a 24" Threaded slug barrel.. but I would like to get into this kind of sport shooting as well to try it out. What is usually a preferred set up for you guys? Or any suggestions?

I have a few different ones. I have a rem 870 with a improved cylinder I don't really use it to much, but it's good. I also gave a stoger side by side in 20g one barrel is improved but the main tube is full choke. I have a berreta outlander that I have been fooling around different chokes. But I think I will go full. Imo with a full choke it forces you to be more accurate. What chokes are you going to get with it? But go with the longer barrel it helps with the swing through. And if you ever get into skeet that is something you would need to work on

From what they said it comes with a full, improves, and modified chokes. So between those for the 28" barrel and then the 24" slug barrel I'll have plenty to play around with. Skeet is something I do want to do, it's one of my goals to learn. I'm stoked to start testing it all out! Soon as I actually get it that is...

Skeet is a lot of fun I recently started playing myself. If you want to shoot skeet you may want to get a skeet choke. Is the mossberg a pump or auto loader

Also if I would recommend going to Bristol. The range officer will walk you through each position, and give some pointers which helps

It's a pump. It's the model 535 Combo with the 28" Barrel and the 24" rifled barrel. I'm taking the shotgun class through RDA with Steve next month. But if I get the chance before that bristol will be the first place I try. I just asked them to order the gun today so hopefully it won't be too long of a wait for it to come in!

Yeah I'm pretty excited about it. The gun should be on this week, and then there's the class in a couple weeks. I'm excited to use the variety of guns he said that he usually brings! Try out a few different set ups ect.

From what Steve has said, just about everything. Mostly sporting/hunting techniques and just general use of a shotgun (hunting guns like the over under and side by side, along with the more common pump and semi auto guns), going over different kinds of ammo I believe. and what he described to me is a 'zombie scenario' to end the class. Haha from what he said they also alternate class time and shooting so you're not just doing one thing for 8 hours straight. You get to move around and such. Either way I've heard a lot of good things about the class so far!

Yeah I'm pretty stoked about it. They provide all the ammo for the class as well just to make sure that there no different loads being used other than what's needed for the class. I'm trying to talk a couple of my friends into going as well

I'm looking forward to the October class as well! Steve has such a passion for firearms, plus I have no bad habits with shotguns yet. I wish they had these classes in the 80's.
See you there!

I would use a mod to full for trap. The guys that have been doing it for years will use a full choke so so the birds will just turn to powder. For skeet, i use a cylinder choke because the gun i use has no choke. Anything choices of cylinder, skeet, or improved cylinder would work for skeet.

I use full in all of my trap shooting. It helps with becoming more accurate. For skeet I use a skeet choke. On of these days I am going to get some 16g 9 shot and than will have a go at skeet with a full choke barrel.... It should be interesting
