I took my shotguns to McMiller this weekend. I have to say the mosquito's were thick as can be. Imagine that, in the woods, after all that rain. It really detracted from the experience. I had repellent on, but I'd have 3-4 trying to bite my damn hand as the bird flew... I think I will wait till it dries out a bit. I love the plain base model 870 and the TriStar (TEC-12) is fun to shoot.

Since I have so many guns to buy and not enough money to buy them, I went with the Mossberg 500 for now. These three pictures are one gun and it takes about 15 seconds to switch between them.

The one thing I do like about them is the safety on the top

Something I wish my 870 had was a better safety. Oh well.

Yeah, I like the Mossberg 500's safety better too, I also think it has a better extractor. I had fired one and the 870 before I made my purchase, and I was probably influenced by the Mossberg having just the pistol grip (like your configuration two) which I didn't like at all. My 870 is plain, but i like it a lot.

Have you had troubles ejecting shells on the 870 after firing them?

Here's my 870 Express Tactical, with the factory installed rail and ghost ring rear sight, next to my C39:

No, my 870 seems to extract just fine, I just liked how much beefier the 500's was. I still love the stock on rwhite's AK...

I just thing the butt stock is better on the shotgun, for me at least. The TriStar Tec 12 is my tactical shotgun if you will. It has a stock and pistol grip and fires semi-auto or pump. The muzzle break makes a funny whistling sound when you fire it too...hard to describe...

Two upgrades I'm planning on doing at some point on the 870 are getting a steel follower to replace the bright orange plastic one and adding an AR style collapsible stock and pistol grip combo.

I just polished the chamber if my 870 with some fine steel wool, which should really help with fail to rejects I have from time to time. Else wise I think it's going to turn into my skeet gun, when I get my new trap gun.

rwhite, thanks for the follower tip! I had a $10 credit that expires from Brownell's at the end of the month so I ordered this one:

http://www.brownells.com/shotgun-parts/m...44573.aspx in Stainless Steel.

Only thing I hate about Brownell's is their shipping is so damn expensive (7.95).

When I get it in the 870, I'll take a pic of the new follower! That cheap piece of plastic makes the gun seem flimsy. But it shoots good. Now if the mosquito's will just leave me alone at McMiller... Otherwise I am going to want to know what shotgun shell RDA recommends for those blood suckers...

The Stainless Steel follower came today, took all of 2 minutes to replace that cheap orange plastic with it. Seems to work like a dream. It seemed very well machined. Very good quality. It was a high price upgrade at 19.95 for a small piece of stainless. Once I take it out and shoot a few magazines worth, I will let you know if I have any problems.

It made a big difference, the action was much smoother. And having to shoot 3 games if trap with out a break, with hot reloads and not having any problems I was happy. Also all the shells fell in a nice little pile since it was taking the same force to remove them. Not a big deal but the less I have to bend over the better.
