Every time I see these stories I'm amazed that I have lived as long as I have. Being the daredevil I am, I rode in a car without wearing a seat belt. I never wore a helmet to ride a bike growing up. What is going to kill me is raised blood pressure from dealing with all these self appointed people who know how to live my life better than I do.

I am sure you ate sugary goods, white bread, red meat, played in the street until dark, played with "dangerous" toys, played on play ground equipment that was built out of steel, sat in the front seat of a car, played basebeall with a HARDBALL, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Well to be honest I did play with cricket balls rather than baseballs, but your point is valid. Part of my delinquent childhood also involved playing cowboys and Indians with a cap gun, so I really must have got a lot of liberal boxes checked on that one.

Gee seat belts were not even an option in cars till the late 60's... Every kid growing up played hardball. We even played full contact football without any padding or helmets. I don't recall ever seeing a bike helmet growing up. We played war with toy guns. Cowboys and Injuns, too... We played with fireworks. Jungle gyms were in most playgrounds, today the term is not politically correct. The ones I remember were 16-20' high, steel, set in concrete. No one told us the size soda we could drink or taxed it. I think I'd hate being a kid today. In high school we had a 22LR rifle range (In Lane Stadium, run by the ROTC).

We played in the streets after dark and we used dead batteries as hand-grenades. We also built our own BMX course and had a rickety treehouse where we stashed porno mags.
