ObamaCare confession: Premiums will spike and choices will diminish

Yea, yea, I know it isn't gun related, but I think we have some pretty bright people on this forum and I was curious what you do for healthcare?

I know this is open enrollment and I was considering possibly getting on with something as our health has had a couple of expenses that were high. The latest today, will make everyone else's premiums go up too!

We do a health share plan with a company, where someone has a need and we send a check directly to the person. It has worked out well for us, but it is a hassle, because so many people don't understand in the medical world what it is. All they see is not insured. Which is true in the technical sense. We are considered self pay, but basically, we do all the leg work and the Drs office does not. Let me just link it on here.

Obamacare is nothing more than GOVERNMENT Welfare. People using it should be treated accordingly. The Government robs the productive, and then splits the loot with democrat voters. Socialism/Communism at it's worst. We need to treat ALL those on the government dole, like the thieves and scum they are.

The productive are tired of being forced at IRS bayonet point to give up the fruits of their hard work so that lazy democrats benefit. It is time to end the Welfare state.

Obamacare is definitely in need of fixing. I think the intent was good, but Healthcare is much too complicated to work out.

I've had employer sponsored healthcare most of my life and have not seen the hardships folks with existing health conditions have finding insurance. This year I'll see a 10% increase in my premium per pay period. I dread someone losing their house, should insurance not pay up or provide insurance. I agree with BelieveIn308 in that there is still a lot of freeloading.

I would boil this down to two ways of looking at this issue:
1. Say sorry dude, you're life sucks and you'll just have to go bankrupt and lose your house, or
2. Let's rewrite AHA (O-Care) and make is equitable and affordable.

At one time, and still sometimes think about it, it would have been nice to see some sort of Universal Healthcare, like Social Security, that covers basic health needs, from runny nose to broken bones. You'd be responsible for yourself and buy extra insurance to cover longer term issues like diabetes, elective issues, or coverage for any risk associated actions (ie. bungie jumping or BASE jumping for example). That too would seem way too complicated and would have to be defined as to what would constitute basic needs.

I agree people need to be held accountable for their own health and should pay more if they have chronic issues, like being overweight, or smoking. I really hate when I see so many kids that are WAY overweight and you just know their diet consists of soft drinks and snacks with very little good food. Those parents should pay more for healthcare.

Just my two cents.

Sorry ssphoto, We can agree to disagree. Socialism is bad in all its forms. In order to make healthcare affordable, you cannot take from from group of people to give to another using government to rob the one group and have government redistribute the loot to others.

Prior to Medicare/Medicaid and government involvement in Healthcare, Helathcare consumed less than 8% of GDP. Now it consumes roughly 19% of GDP. What changed? The easy answer is government setting prices that it would pay no questions asked via these programs. This is the PRIMARY cause of out of control costs. Government has eliminated competition. More government is not the answer.

And Sorry, life is not fair. How much should you be forced to pay for my medical bills? If I need 2 million in medical services and cannot afford them, can I have government confiscate 50% of you income for the rest of your life to pay for me? This really what socialism/communism/Marxism is all about.

Why not just be responsible for your own healthcare costs? Why steal from someone else to pay for your costs?

Obamacare is a train wreck. Abe Lincoln once said that the best way to get rid of a really bad law was to enforce in vigorously, without mercy, and let it collapse of it's own weight. That is exactly what the Republicans are doing. Financially it will collapse within a few years unless government increases the amount it steals and redistributes to democrats. Let it die. It is just another perfect example of government interference in the free market driving up costs dramatically. Without Obamacare, healthcare costs would have increased at the 4.5% per year dictated by Medicare/Medicaid. With Obamacare they are now increasing at 18-22% per year. If you are not a freeloader, are you really better off being robbed to pay someone else?
