Hi all,

I am getting ready to pick up my first AR-15 in a few days and have purchased some simple fold-down scopes to attach. Beyond that, I was thinking of a mid-range scope as well, somewhere in the 4x range, but didn't want to spend more than about $150. I've looked at various websites and reviews, but the more I read, the more confused or unsure I get.

I'm looking for any recommendations for the best unit I can get for that price point.

The unit I'm buying is here: ATI MilSport Forged 16"

Thanks in advance.

I decided to go with an NCStar. Mostly good reviews from what I can tell, some folks not. This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BTW...ge_o00_s00

I can always return it if it doesn't work well.

I would never put a NCStar optic on a firearm. They're fine for on say a airsoft air rifle or a cheap crossbow but I've seen too many people at the range have issues with them. Those things are cheap for a reason. If you're looking for budget glass your best bet is to spend a little more on something from Vortex or Primary Arms.

NC STAR may be good for some people because of its price and people at gun shows love to sell them to you. It's not my first choice. I do like Vortex and a few others. It really all depends on what you are looking to use the AR for. Leopold are also good but are a little pricey. Nikon are also okay. Once you set the use of the rifle, find the scope for that use. I have 3 AR's set up with redots and 2 set with scopes. On the next two, one will get a scope and the other will get another vortex redot. My 308 will get a Vortex because NF, night force, is out of my budget

I just got the Nc star unit. Seems pretty well built. I'm not planning on being too serious and definitely won't own more than one AR. Most likely! I think I'll try this one out after I take the beginner course at red dot. I have a Nikon for another rifle.
