After 30 plus years I've finally had my first issue with a Glock, one of my Gen 1 G19's
This pistol has had every 9mm load I could find along with a few hot hand loads.

While at the range I started having a problem with the slide locking open after the last shot. I took out another 9mm and finished up with an hour and a half of fun times. When I got home, I inspected the bad G19 and found that the slide lock spring broke so it wasn't getting enough out of it to lock the slide back.

Rather than replacing the $5 slide lock assembly myself, I've decided to send it to Glock to have the frame upgraded to a Gen3. Glock charges $100 for the frame, any metal parts inside the frame are replaced, and 2nd expedited shipping to Glock.Glock pays for 2nd day freight on the way back.

I also talked to Glock about a cracked magazine I have (my 2nd one). Glock had problems with some earlier 9mm mags. The revised mags are all metal with a polymer casing. The body's on the "9mm" mags use to be almost all polymer. They also had a problem with some early magazine followers not fitting properly and showing excessive wear in a short period of time. Glock suggested I send the entire pistol in so the could be sure all my magazine were Aso upgraded they work with no issues.

Typically I'd say the manufacture is the most expensive place to have a firearm repaired. Although I only need a $5 part and can install it myself. Instead I'm getting an updated frame, all new parts in the frame and having my magazines inspected and replaced if found to be the early ones that are mostly polymer or have worn followers. Glock will also test fire the pistol to be sure everything is working.

I feel a $100 or under $150 with freight is a great deal.

After 30 of service, I'd say the pistol provided great service period, no matter the brand. Parts do wear out and break. The cost of $150 for all that is being provided is reasonable. Age, I find is less of determinate factor as is number of rounds put through it. I suppose I have been lucky in that I have never worn out a firearm.

I know some old grizzled veterans that swear by their Colt 1911. I recently had a old guy, had to be in his 80's next to me at McMiller. I was shooting my Remington 1911 R1 Enchanced and he asked if he try it. I was only to happy to have him try. He easily put all 8 rounds in the center at 15 yds. Said, to me nice shooter, but will it last as long as a Colt. My only response was 'time will tell'. He told me about his time in Korea, and how he relied on his 1911 a lot as many times where he was they ran out of rifle ammo.

My best guess is the pistol fired approximately 15,000-20,000 rounds a year for about 25 years and about 5000 a year since. Same with a Gen1 G17 that's never had a problem. Dang! Now that I said that, I'll expect it to blowup in my hands next week.

Many of us may remember our mom, dad or grandparents telling us it use to cost a nickel to see a movie at a theater. I don't have any of my own kid's, if I did I would be telling them that it use to cost $10 to shoot at ranges all day and nobody ever had to wait or reserve time to shoot. Ammo was dirt cheap even if you didn't work in the industry for over 25 years.
Eventually even with the cost of gas I'm going to have to check out Mc Millers for an all day shoot.

I would have done almost the same. I probably would have sent it over to ZEV Technologies and let them do a little customization to it. As I have said before, my brother loves his Glocks and he also does a lot of customization to them. A friend of his has had ZEV Technologies do a lot of modifications and turn some Glock pistols into really bad A$$ little shooters. I have not had the chance to shoot any of them but they are sweet looking. His buddy just had a customized AR built for comp by ZEV Technologies and spent just under 8k on it. Little out of my price range but it is a sweet rifle. Junk, no.

It still is only $16 a DAY at McMiller to shoot all day! And a yearly pass is $200 ($300 if you want to use the 300 yd range). So that's about 13 times a year to break even.

How many times have you replaced the barrel in that Glock out of curiosity?

I'm not looking for any custom work on my 19. I plan on using it for CC. I'm only concerned that it works when needed., as far as range use
I'm retiring it. I'll always shoot it at the range but only for carry practice.

$16 a day at McMillers is why I mentioned I need to get there. My reference to range cost was for local ranges I could go to after work or days off. With McMillers I need to add the cost of gas to get there, much different than when I was referring to..
