I went to a graduation party today. Tried to be helpful by opening a package. One slip of the blade later, I sliced my left thumb open.
I spent 5 hours at the ER. All I have to show for it are 5 stitches, a tetanus shot, which I'm told will hurt like a ***** tomorrow, and my left hand is useless. Right now, I'm just trying to consume enough to counter the adrenaline so I can get to sleep.
The worst part is, I had to cancel my trip to McMiller tomorrow.
I've always heard dull knives are more dangerous. I beg to differ. The Doc actually commented that it must have been a sharp knife to go so deep.
Anyway, I'm venting and sleep deprived. Take this for what it's worth.

Sorry to hear that. Did something similar with my foot last year. Stepped on my Bushman Bowie while camping on a kayak trip. It took all my gauze to stop it. I had no choice but to keep kayaking.

OUCH! I did the same (sliced my thumb open) when I was 9 with my scout knife on the back of my Grandpas tractor. I remember the pain!

My wife did the same and sliced her wrist while trying to cut some grass seed matting. She almost hit her main vein in her wrist. Hope it heals quickly for you.

It was a good one. Took about 3 hours to get it to stop bleeding. I've never gotten anything stitched before. I've added that to the list of things I'd rather not do again.

It will leave a nice little scar. Take care of it and you will be back in form in no time! In the mean time let the wife do the heavy lifting..hehehehe.

Hopefully it's just a little scar.
The wife has been picking up the slack, though. I love that woman!

Nice little "war story" to recall at opportune time. Hope it heals fast.

Thanks all.
I'm getting the stitches removed on Monday. It's healing nicely, but still very tender. If nothing else, it's been a good conversation piece. It seems everyone that sees gauze wants to know what happened.
I have to work on my story telling skills. Does Red Dot offer a class for that? :p

No, maybe you and I can sit down and come up with a curriculum. May need a few more cuts to come up with stories

I have as scar on my right pointer finger from when I was showing someone I worked with how sharp it was. As a matter of fact the person I was showing the blade to, now works at RDA.....
I also have a scar on my thigh from when I stupidly cut an ant in half with a razor blade when I saw it crawling on my jeans. What a waste of a new pair of jeans blood all over the place. Looking back at it now, the best part was that I got the ant... .Now try to explain that to the ER Doctor while getting sewn up

I'm sure between you, me, and David we can come up with something.
BTW, how is he healing up?

Ouch. Damn bugs!
I'll bet the docs at the ER have heard much worse.

Here's the freshly sewn pic. Doesn't look like much, but it was about 1/4" deep. We'll see how it looks when the thread is pulled. The doc did a pretty good job.

We need a Scars Anonymous group. I'm sure Steve at RDA would sign up.

Stiches are out. Looks like it shouldn't scar too bad. The nurse said I was lucky to get the doctor I did. He does good work.

Karl if you're going to do things like this, I hope to see you at RDA's Red Cross classes.

LOL.
I'm really hoping it doesn't become a recurring theme.
