I am looking into getting an XD(m)-40 for my first pistol. A friend of mine brought up the issue of the grip safety. I was wondering if anybody has ever had the grip safety malfunction? I think it is a nice feature, but I just want to make sure there would be no problem if I were to move forward with my purchase.

As others I have several with a grip safety. Never had a problem. You don't really notice it. It is hard to shoot if you are not gripping the gun anyway.

The only issue I have had is once at an IDPA match I did not grip it tight at the end of a round and the slide did not rack. Which is a good thing, since I shouldn't rack it without a good grip.

I've researched XD's quite a bit and never heard of a faulty grip safety. Personally I don't own any XD's so I'm really giving a non biased opinion.

I have a XD in 40SW and XDm (5.25") in .45ACP, I have never had any issues with the grip safety. It is just one more safe guard to prevent a unintended discharge. I have never dropped a weapon, but I appreciate all the safety systems built into a SA pistol.

I like the extra safety that Springfield offers, I just wanted to make sure no one has ever heard of this happening outside of what I have already researched. Thank you all.

I have the XD Mod 2 and have only put about 250 rounds through it and have had no problems. Same as said above, I did a lot of research prior to purchasing and found nothing about a grip safety issue.

I have the XDs 45, and the XDm 9mm compact. So far both have been easy and problem free. I haven't had an issue with either of them!
