I keep a fully loaded Swiss Army knife that I've had for 20 years. I'm not very handy, so when my father-in-law comes over to fix something and asks me for my tool box that's what he gets. Obviously that happened only once.

What gunfight?? Huh

There are plenty of reasons to carry a knife, When was the last time you came across a wild west shootout? Chances are that a confrontation is going to be close quarters and if you don't have immediate access to your firearm because you are laying on it or perhaps it falls away from you in a scuffle, a knife is an extremely valuable tool to make space. (and for cutting open those damn bubble packs that every company packages things in). Thumbs up

Mike think of them like a bayonet attached to your arm... I'm not a big knife guy, but a Kbar always a good choice for a combat knife. Knives have many uses. I still remember seeing a real cowboy use one once to fix barbwire. He wielded that like it was second nature. So if you ever see one with funny looking grooves...

A man is only as good as what he can do, and he can do an awful lot more with a knife than without one.

I carry a small folding Smith and Wesson with a serrated section, glass breaker, and seatbelt cutter. I would carry an assisted opener, but it's frowned upon in the people's republik of Illinois.

If I'm going to be away from home for an extended period of time I carry a Leatherman Wave as well.

I don't carry a knife on me. But if I did it would either be my fixed Mora knife. Or I have a knife from my grandfather. I don't recall what it is. But he was part of the navy blimp group. And they gave them these knives to cut through the various ropes. It's a nice Harvey knife. But all and all I am mostly much if a knife person

I've been looking for a new knife to carry. I've always had a spring assist Kershaw, but I've been looking into a fixed blade knife lately. I do like the knifes I've seen from spyderco, I'll look into those a little more. But so far I think my favorite knife is my mayhem blade from Bradley cutlery. Last I heard though, is not legal to carry a balisong knife in Illinois... And I need a sheath for it

Not gonna lie Ken, even after having made a general plan for a BOB, I never added an extra knife... I'm excited to pick one out now. I did add a fillet knife though before if that counts! haha figured it would help out with a quick meal

No need to lie... I'm here to learn. I probably carry extra ***** that is redundant and needs to be reviewed, and reduced due to weight. I'm sure I have another multi-tool for example in my BOB, even though I always am carrying one. Ryan's idea for the IFAK cord being red, and paracord pulls has me reviewing my whole kit. I just am trying to avoid a Homer Doh moment in a real SHTF scenario.

When SHTF I am going to rely on the Kbar knife most. I'll bring along a list of what I have in each of my bags. Feel free to comment, and please let me know if I have too much junk, or if I have forgotten something you feel is important. My bags evolve as I learn more. Right now I am working on an EDC bad, I also have a BOB which is my primary, and an additional bag which has stuff I could leave behind, Tent, sleeping gear, etc...

I carry some fishing gear in my BOB, and maybe a filet knife makes more sense. Interesting idea.

Yeah ever since I learned how to do it, I figure it's a great food source that doesn't take much for equipment or extra prep... a little knife and a pole that can be broken down pretty small. But either way I will try to make an inventory of what I have or would like and we can all comment on all of them.

My EDC is a Benchmade. My Spyderco's are just a bit heavy for an all day carry.

Benchmade has some great knives.. I've wanted one, but never decided to actually purchase one. What model do you carry?

My EDC is model 960 Osborne Design. The one I have is from a limited run used for large companies who purchased them for gifts to give to their clients. Mine has a companies name on the blade. The company is "Power Pro" a fishing line I use to buy for a company I worked for.

My other Benchmade also a gift is a 3550BK Mel Pardue. If want to see what it looks like do a search on Amazon.

I searched both, and per usual, I do like their product.. I'm well overdue for a new knife.. I'm going to add those to my over all list of knives to consider for sure..

BTW if anyone has any recommendations that haven't been mentioned yet, feel free to let me know!!

Especially if you know of a good blade that is actually made in the USA

hmmm... Is made in the USA that important? It is not for me. Hell, if I eliminated my guns and ammo not made in the USA, half would probably go away.

I figure a good knife has to have a quality blade, made from reasonable steel. I don't want to have something cheep, but I don't want to pay a fortune for one either.
