I agree. Cowards look for soft targets. Places of worship need to be protected by someone.

You take the group in SC. In a meeting like that they were probably sitting in a circle. The kid came in and sat next to the pastor leading the group after they had started. That means each person took a moment to look at him, and throughout the time each person was looking at the pastor for lengths of time.

According to reports, the kid stood up, which would immediately draw everyone's attention. He then pulled his gun and uttered 15 words which takes about 3-4 seconds to say.

Now put yourself there. You see this white kid in a black church stand and draw a gun. You have 4-6 seconds before he shoots. You are in a sitting position with a holstered gun at your side.

Who here would be dead after this? Not many.

Now there was a 26 year old man in the group. When shooting started he jumped in front of his aunt and said "you don't have to do this". If you didn't know, what do you think would result from that? Correct, all souls lost.

What the kid should have said if anything is "Stop or I'll shoot". The reality is he should have just shot, but he couldn't because he had no gun.

The sacrifice of yourself to jump in front of a bullet in defense of others is great, the sacrifice of yourself to send a bullet in defense of others is even greater.

It's time to do away with all "gun free zones" and not just the ones in churches. 92% of all mass shootings since the beginning of 2009, the year when Ft. Hood happened, have been in "gun free zones". Just today the Naval Shipyard in DC was on lockdown because of a suspected lunatic shooter, which turned out to be false. This is the same shipyard that a couple years ago did have a shooting incident. The shipyard is a "gun free zone". So if these things work why do the vast majority of all mass shootings happen in them?

Americans are generally ignorant of our history. The story of the "Black Robe" regiment should be mandatory teaching in every school. But I am sure liberals will want this banned. But the good thing about history is that the truth will survive, unless the left is very very careful in their book burning, media distortions and big lies. Hitler (a national socialist true believer in big government) was the last one to try. He failed.

I'm pretty sure they already banned that from being included along with the fact that Jefferson held non-denominational prayer meetings for members of the government and their families in the Capital Rotunda. Instead they teach that Jefferson was at best a deist or at worst an atheist who embodied a separation of church and state.

And the fact that the statement of "wall of separation" was all about the government keeping out of church affairs, and NOT the other way round. Why is it that I as a new American seem to know more about American History than many of the people I talk to? .......present company excepted.

British Gunner, our 'public option' in education has become nothing more that 13 years of liberal indoctrination. Facts are ignored in favor of socialist dogma. If it doesn't fit the liberal viewpoint it will no longer be allowed to be taught in public schools.

The wall of separation is to keep the government out of the church, not the other way around.

The constitution says the government cannot tell people what religion they must practice, if any, and it says they can't stop anyone from practicing any religion they want.

A judge putting up the 10 commandments on his court wall is NOT a violation of the idea of separation of church and state nor a violation of the constitution, telling him he can't put it there is the violation.

Only ad idiot would think the presence of the 10 commandments is establishing a religion, in fact you would have to be quite an extraordinary idiot to believe that.

Most people do not know that the capitol building was used as a church before congress occupied the building. The speaker of the house (Sedgwick) and the president of the senate (Jefferson) gave permission for the house chamber to be used for church meetings. At one time there were up to 14 churches meeting each week in the capitol. It was used in this fashion until the Civil War.

Even 10 years later John Quincey Adams proclaim that the only church in Washington was the one meeting in the capitol and attended by the majority of congress including the POTUS Thomas Jefferson. Even two years after that infamous let he had a regular seat.
