I went out to McHenry on Saturday to try my "new" shotgun (Rem 870) out for the first time. I was pleased with the range price, the range rules, the staff; all very laid back. My 870 worked well and operated near flawlessly; not sure it's the design, but on extraction, some times it would extract but the shell would remain -- I'd have to shake it out onto the ground. The voice activated pull (trap shooting) worked well, too. Since I was solo, I got a whole trap to myself, so I was a bit shocked at how fast 25 shots go! I was only planning on shooting one box (budgeting myself), but had to go back for another box! 50 shots in about 25-30 min of actual shooting....seems way too fast. Once I partner up with someone, it will slow down a lot, I'm sure.
1. $10 for the round (25 shots); I got it for $5 as a vet.
2. Box of extra ammo for $8.50, but later got the discount once they knew I was a vet.
Although I would not recognize any financial gain from joining the club ($110 for individual), vs the amount of times I plan on going out shooting, I still may join up to support the club and have a "regular" place to go shooting.
If anyone want's to partner up on trap, let me know.
I sure like shooting at an actual target, versus paper in an indoor range; much more fun!
