Hi all,

Just soliciting opinions and suggestions on this:

I plan on CCW on my road trip to Kansas this month, where I'll be travelling some remote roads (boondocks) as well as populated areas. I plan on CCW in my shorts pockets, and at times store the gun in my glove box for any situations that require it.

I do have a lock box cabled to my seat, but it's pretty obvious to any onlookers that I'm storing a gun in there; thus giving the bad guy a target smash and grab (with cutters of course).

I'm more keen on quickly stashing the pistol in my glove box for short durations and I do have a lock. Although not as secure as a lock box might be, it is much less obvious to those same bad guys that I might be stashing something they'd want.

Both MO, KS and NE honor my CCW permit, so I'm covered on that point.

Thoughts?

Depending on your vehicle they make a lockbox that can mount under your seat and it opens from the front. I think locking it up in a case which is easily seen is about the same as locking it up in a glove box. One can cut the cable as you said but they can also break the glove box. The lock box may deter the average punk just looking for cash because they will have to work a little harder to get it open. I also use a lockbox but realize if they break into my car they will take it if they want it bad enough. The under the seat is out of sight at least and harder to remove, but also harder to transfer between vehicles.
The question I have for others is what do you do in your hotel room if you need to leave there such as going to a water park. Do you lock it in your vehicle or in a lock box in the room if there is no safe in the room.

I should clarify, the lock box is not accessible from the front; just the way it is. I'd have to get out, open the back door, and reach under, so it's very obvious I'm storing something there.

That being the case, the glove box sounds like a better option. Stowing it without leaving the driver's seat will draw less attention.

If you absolutely need to secure a gun in your vehicle, and tend to keep the vehicle for enough years to pay off, check these console vaults out.. http://www.consolevault.com/ if I was in the market for one, these are define til the most creative I've seen. No doubt if someone break into your vehicle, nothing is 100% secure however most smash and grabs are in a hurry and may not bother or they may just take your vehicle too.

I'm all game for the continuous carry, but there are times that I do stash it in the car when I'm not allowed with it places... I do generally opt for the center counsel.. But also, I feel like I'd trust something being left in my car over the hotel, depending on the area.
