I bought a 357 tarus used it worked well. Than the cylinder timing spring broke, so the cylinder wouldn't line up with the barrel. They gave a life time warrenty. I sent it in to get fixed, which they did. But I never shot if after that. I figured it was like a dog who bit some one. It happens before what's stopping it from happening again. I have been buying guns for a while now. And you do get what you pay for. Add a few more months of saving up, and get something you don't need to worry about

Taurus isn't known for its strict quality standards. Look on Gunbroker for a Ruger Super RedHawk in 454.

I agree. I have been looking and researching the same. Nothing is tougher than the Super Redhawk (or all the Rugers for that matter).

Over the past month I have rented and shot 50 rounds through the Redhawk, Super Redhawk, and Super Blackhawk (Single action).

These were in .44 mag. There was a vast difference in how well they handled the recoil. The Super Redhawk was extremely fun to shoot and didn't feel any worse than my XDS in .45. The other two you could really feel the recoil.

Given the .454 is more powerful than the .44 mag then my experience says the Super Redhawk is even a better choice for this.

I hear you there I was in the same boat. If the cost is a concern if you don't mind Mr asking why are you looking at such a large round?

mostly for fun at the range, and i know my 9mm in the army fired at an engine block would not slow it down but the 50 would stop it. i think the 454 is a good compromise that will stop a car if needed in a prep for anything scenario.....but mostly for fun at the range. but looking in to it 357 or 44 would do as well

You will be more likely to shoot - and enjoy - a .357mag on a regular basis (like a Ruger GP100). I have a S&W 629 Classic with a 8 3/8" barrel that I can put 50 rounds through at the range without being any worse for wear. A .44 with a barrel under 4" probably would be a different story.

i was watching this guy all night, and even though at first look i was not in love with the longer barrel on the ruger it grew on me. and i also watched him fire a gun called the rhino. it is sooo ugly but it looked like it shoots good. but for the price i have never heard of the brand

The Ruger GP100 gets my vote. They aren't crazy expensive, and are built like a tank. It's the only gun I've ever sold and then replaced because I missed having one.

I had the 4", and now have the 6".

What do plan on doing with a .454, are planning on hunting big game or looking for a powerhouse for the range?

I've been shooting a 6" Ruger Security Six for several years. It's the model that Ruger had prior to releasing the GP 100. Great shooter, wouldn't give it up for anything other than another 686 or Python. I've fed my .357's everything on the market and then some. Never had a problem or need to replace a part on any Smith, Ruger Colt or Dan Wesson.

I also have a Charter Arms Undercover and a Bulldog that I picked up used use 25-30 years ago. I picked it up as about a 3.5", had it cut to less than 2" and basically rebuilt the entire gun including bead blasting, hammer bobbed, and completely refinished. I haven't shot many rounds through it but enough to say it's held up. The Undercover has had several thousand rounds of 38 special through it along with a few hundred +P's. the original Undercover, and Bulldogs have a much lighter frame than the ones built today. If anyone is looking for a lower priced revolver, I definitely would go with a Charter rather than Taurus or a few others out there.

If money and firepower isn't a deciding factor, no doubt I'd buy a 629, I just don't see myself having a need for a .454, if I did I'd, I would no doubt go with a Smith 500.

The final factor in choosing a revolver is the same as a semi pistol. Personal comfort and confidence..

Hickok 45 has some excellent reviews, I follow all of his stuff on YouTube.

I try to watch as many of his videos as I can. He has been helpful for me even when his video is completely unrelated to my problem. Haha it helps I also tink he's pretty entertaining to watch and you get a fairly good rounded review of the firearm!

Lately Miculek has been getting his son involved in reviews and his daughter has been shooting 3 gun. I've seen his daughter on one of the cable shows placing in the top 3 and a few 1st's. I find his sons reviews to be extremely boring, I hope his camera personality improves, it would be great to see a few Miculeks doing reviews.
