Had a customer ask me the other about .17 HMR.

In my normal "no bullshit" way, I told him I knew really nothing about the round other than it's hotter than 22LR.Shutup

Anybody got more to say that my useless comment.

Help

In 30 years of shooting, I have never fired a rifle in that caliber...

To start I have plenty of .22 ammo to shoot but I always opt for my Marlin XT-17VR. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/images/XT/...721-lg.jpg" alt="Model XT-17VR

Why well its a faster flatter shooting round. Great for varmints and just plinking. Yeah the ammo is a little more expensive but I can still buy it. In this area people were buying .17 rifles since ammo was still available. Now I have to hunt for my .17 ammo but it does come in on a regular basis. Here is a great article on the .17 round. http://www.chuckhawks.com/17HMR.htm

The main thing I heard is that it's a round you need to clean your gun pretty much after every shot. Since its can throw the accuracy off quite a bit when it's dirty.

That stinks. I haven't read Bradbury's response yet. But I've saved the page.

The Chuck Hawks page is mainly about history and ballistics, not much if any actual shooting notes.

I still shoot my .22 as much as I have time. But for rabbits, digger squirrels, and coyotes, I will crab my .17HMR.
