Aim Point (ACO) - Brian S - 10-22-2014

I'm sure nobody has seen the new Aim Point Carbon (ACO), just looking for input about specs etc..

It would be going on an AR

I use a EOTech 522 with a Vortex VMX-3T magnifier on mine. Pricey, but works really well.

That AimPoint looks sweet. It comes with the mount which I disliked about the previous version, and I do like the idea that waterproof lens covers are available. The battery life is also a lot longer than my EOTech (but I prefer the AA batteries). The price is a lot less as well. I do like the EOTech's actual sight dot better. But I think I like the controls on the Aimpoint better. I do think this Aimpoint can be removed and added back easy, and if it holds zero that's a big plus. I didn't see if this comes with NV, or how that effects the controls, or if that costs more. The EOTech weighs more also, lighter is better. The one remaining question is if you can add a magnifier behind it.

This Vortex optic has also tweeked my interest...

The EOTech is a great product and would be my first choice, however I'm working on a small budget. I checked out the Vortex and it also looks like a nice one at a great price. I'm going to wait until I get hands on with the new Aim Point to compare features, options, quality vs. cost. Thanks for the input!

Thanks, I'd be interested in your selection and findings. I am a strong believer in Iron Sights, but at my age and with my eyes not as good as they used to be, optics make more and more sense. Optics are probably one area you never want to skimp on, even though I am a cheapskate. Good glass can make any rifle a far more useful tool.

For example, I think the Vortex magnifiers are better than the EOTech ones and cost half what they do. I really think Vortex scopes give Leupold scopes a run for their money as well.

I agree what good glass can do for a rifle. I just received a set of magpul pro steel sight's from my buddy for my 60th birthday. I'm sure there's better ones out there but these serve the purpose and better yet they were a gift.

Like you 308 my ageing eyes can use all the help they can get. I'm taking my time getting a magnifier while I research Vortex, EOTech, Leupold and a few other's. As the Shot Show approaches I'm sure we'll see other'***** the market too. I also have a Leupold 3x9 50mm sitting on my shelf doing nothing. I may buy a cheap base for it and just for the heck of it try it on my ar.

RE: Aim Point (ACO) - BelieveIn308 - 10-29-2014

I've found that it's best not to skimp on Scope rings either. I have a favorite brand, that are rock solid TPS and I always get the steel rings. Not cheap, but very rugged and they do the job even with the heavy recoil.

Glass is just an area where it does not pay to go cheap. There are plenty of outstanding scopes in under $700 (and we talking Leupold here). The rule used to be that you would spend as much on optics as the rifle, but I sure today that optics are far less.

RE: Aim Point (ACO) - Brian S - 10-29-2014

I already have a great set of rings on the scope. I want to find an inexpensive base to use on an ar just to try it out. If I like it I'd swap out the base for a better quality one, probably Leupold.
