Our Island Illinois - ssphoto - 10-22-2015

I just got back from a long road trip to Pennsylvania. Having dinner in town, I picked up a copy of one of those freebie newspapers off their counter. I read through and noticed one article on gun safety and preparedness (aware of one's surroundings) by a prominent source, and then a quarter page add for Kahr guns. Wow! I don't recall seeing gun ads anywhere in local Illinois newspapers. Have you guys seen this locally?

There may be "life" outside our Illinois bubble after all.

I hear you. I'm up in Wisconsin on a weekly basis and it's night and day just crossing over the border. The mine set is different between the states. Talk with most folks in IL and firearms freak them out. A ton of WI folks (more so the further north in WI) don't bat an eye when you mention firearms.

I guess if you grew up around firearms it’s just normal to deal with firearms. Being born and raised in Chicago, firearms wasn't a big every day thing. It wasn't until I was in my 20's when I purchased a firearm and never looked back.

Recently I was out riding my motorcycle up northern part of WI and decided to stop at Subway for lunch. An older gentleman pulled into the parking lot and got out of his vehicle with open carry firearm on his side. Now it was lunch with a packed Subway and I thought folks where going to freak. Nope. The gentleman walked in, got in line and ordered his lunch. I watched everyone in the place and not one person even gave him a second look.

Three miles north from my home (in WI), fully automatic firearms with suppressors are legal.

Yes, we live on an island called Illinois.

It is a mental illness to fear an inanimate object. Firearms should be respected, and if you don't want one, don't buy one. But please respect others that don't buy into the liberal mindset that being unable to protect oneself from criminals and over reaching government is a good thing.

The Second Amendment was not included for self defense against criminals and is not about hunting. It exists to give us a fighting chance against government. It is there as the ultimate protector of our Freedom and Liberty.

I really do feel bad for you lot. I grew up in Pennsylvania and now live in West Virginia. Firearms were a part of everyday life for me all my life. ;)

Well, it's up to us in Illinois to teach our neighbors? I open carry all the time outside my house, taking my coat off and making sure my gun is exposed, but....it's easier to do when you get out of a truck with a Red Dot Arms logo on it Smile
